SUSTAINABLE SOURCING AT CHIQUITO
Do you make all your food from scratch in your kitchens?
Our talented chefs make almost everything from scratch in our kitchens. To ensure our dishes taste great in every single one of our restaurants, we do outsource a few products. Where required, our menu development team work with suppliers who are experts in their field to develop innovative and high quality recipes.
What do you do to ensure Chiquito is a suitable business for the future?
Sustainable Fish
All fish served in our restaurant has been caught from a certified sustainable fishery. Every step of the journey from catch to delivery has been audited to ensure that the product is sustainable. We have a Sustainable Fishing Policy in place which is used to guide us to using the most sustainable products available.
Sustainable Palm Oil
Where possible we have removed palm oil from our products. In the cases where palm oil is required for our products, we’ve ensured that the palm oil used is from sustainable sources.
What’s not in our food?
You won’t find any of the following nasties in our food: Genetically modified ingredients, artificial trans-fat, MSG or any food colours associated with hyperactivity in children
Our Ingredients and Products
Fresh Produce:
We source our produce from many different suppliers in the UK, Europe and Globally. We have strict controls in place to ensure that all suppliers are working to high standards of food quality, safety and environmental management. We source fruit and vegetables from the UK when produce is in season.
Meat and Steaks:
We have a long standing relationship with our meat and steak suppliers and their teams to ensure our steaks are of the highest quality steaks. All meat used in our restaurants is fully traceable from farm to fork.
Our technical team visit all suppliers regularly to ensure that the standards in place meet the policies we set as a business.
Eggs:
We are proud to serve only RSPCA Assured Free Range Shell eggs in our restaurants. Our mayonnaise also uses free range eggs.
Animal Welfare:
All our suppliers must adhere to EU legislation terms of animal welfare and as a business our policy states that all animals should be treated humanely at all times.
Pasteurised Cheese:
All cheese used in our restaurants must be pasteurised with the exception of Grana Padano and Parmesan hard cheeses that use unpasteurised milk. We recommend pregnant women follow the advice of a healthcare professional when deciding whether to consume unpasteurised hard cheese.
CHIQUITO RESPONSIBLE DRINKING POLICY
Why can't a 16 or 17 year old be served alcohol in your restaurants when this is perfectly legal?
Whilst this is legal, as a company we need to make sure that no-one under 18 is served alcohol.
We therefore prohibit the sale of alcohol to anyone under the age of 18. This is a further measure to ensure our staff are not in any danger of prosecution by mistakenly allowing the sale of alcohol to underage guests.
My child is 18 but was asked for ID and refused alcohol because they didn't have any, why?
We operate a ‘Challenge 25’ policy in all branches to prevent alcohol being sold to anyone underage. Once ID is requested alcohol cannot be served unless valid proof of age documentation can be provided. We’re more than happy to serve alcohol once valid ID is shown.
Can I bring in my own alcohol to Chiquito?
We do not let guests bring in their own alcohol. We do however have a great range of cocktails, wine and beer.
